Inevitable

standing woman with her hand on the shoulder of the child is very striking.

Charles Saatchi
To continue her exploration of motherhood, Barbara Hoogeweegen focuses on the inevitability of children leaving home, painted from photographs taken of mothers, the children fade gently into the background to reflect them fading slowly out of the home. The second hand, battered frames reflect nostalgia and time passing.

The paintings are installed in the gallery space to resemble the sitting room of a private home. This reflects the narrative of the series and takes the viewer into a domestic space. -
