In this work, Hoogeweegen references French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s thoughts on desire and longing. The focus is on a man’s face gazing through a window and a woman looking over a man’s shoulder. The paintings are hung together to create a narrative wherein they appear to desire each other. He is looking through the window at the woman he desires, he is longing not only for her, but all the women before her who resemble the first person he ever desired. His desire only seeks to keep moving on.
